The Jarama-RACE Golf Club in Ciudalcampo dresses in its best clothes for the first edition of the Madrid Ladies Open from May 5th to the 8th. As in many other golf courses in Spain, Javier Arana made sure to design and leave a great legacy at the Jarama Golf Club for many professional golfers to enjoy today.
Madrid Ladies Open
It is the first time that the Ladies European Tour is held in Madrid, and the golfers are very excited. This professional golf circuit based in England began in 1979. In its beginnings, the Ladies European Tour had difficulties to position itself in relation to international tournaments such as the North American LPGA.
This tournament has more than 10,000 attendees with 126 players. We already know that this year it will be held in Madrid, after having stepped on African, Middle Eastern, Asian and Australian ground. There will be different attractions, such as golf exhibitions, clinical talks for women and a training day for university students.
One of the goals of this year’s LET is to motivate people to play sports, and more importantly, to promote golf sportsmanship among women.
Marta Sanz, the renowned golfer from Madrid, will have the opportunity to participate in it. She comments: “I am very excited, I am looking forward to seeing my course prepared for a tournament of this relevance and for many people to come and watch it”.
Where is the Madrid Ladies Open played?
As for the greens or golf courses, the Jarama Golf Club is making sure they are in the best conditions. Likewise, the Green Section Committee of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation is passing the roller and making lower cuts to achieve a higher speed than usual. Its objectives are to “encourage the construction and maintenance of sustainable golf courses”.
Carla Fernández, manager of the Jarama-RACE Golf Club, explains how they keep their courses in the best conditions: “Likewise, as we do not use chemical products, we have added all the necessary nutrients through natural fertilizers so that the course is in the best conditions. And also, thanks to the spring season and rainfall, the grass is strong and vigorous, which allows us to play with different cuts, especially in the fairways.”
Sponsors of the event:
The Comunidad de Madrid Ladies Open is sponsored by the Comunidad de Madrid as main sponsor; by the Real Federación Española de Golf (RFEG), the Federación de Golf de Madrid (FGM) and Deporte & Business (D&B) as organizers; by the Club de Golf Jarama-RACE as event venue; and by Kyocera, Mahou, PING, Solán de Cabras, Titleist and Volvo as official suppliers.
